Import a tracking plan from a CSV file
Last updated on October 9, 2026
Already have a tracking plan in a spreadsheet? Import it as a CSV file into a new plan or an existing one.
Import
- 1
On "Tracking plans", click "Import CSV". To add events to one plan, use "Import CSV" in that plan's menu.
- 2
Choose your file and click "Preview". Nothing is written yet.
- 3
Check the report: events and properties created, updated or unchanged, and rejected rows.
- 4
Choose "Create a new tracking plan" or "Merge into an existing plan", then click "Confirm import".
File format
A .csv file of 2 MB maximum, comma separated, UTF-8. Download the expected structure with "Download the CSV template".
One row describes one property of an event. Rows with the same event_title are merged into one event, so you can import the same file again safely.
Allowed values: priority is danger, warning, notice, info or none. property_type is string, numeric, boolean, object or object-group. property_value_type is dynamic, optional or fixed. Use dots for objects and [] for arrays in property_name, for example ecommerce.items[].price.
Build the file with an AI assistant
Click "Generate the CSV with AI", then "Copy prompt". Paste it into ChatGPT, Claude or any assistant, describe your events at the end, and import the CSV it returns. This uses no Tag Insight credits.
Good to know
If your plan limits the number of events, an import that would exceed it is refused.
