Track your GTM container versions

Last updated on October 9, 2026

Keep a history of every version published in your Google Tag Manager containers, to link a tracking change to a release.

Connect and add containers

  1. 1

Open "Google Tag Manager", then "Version alerts".

  2. 2

Click "Connect Google" and sign in with an account that can access your containers.

  3. 3

Click "Add container", select your containers and click "Add container".

What you see

The "Activity" tab lists the published versions: container, version, name, creation and publication dates, description, and a link to open the version in GTM. When a container is added, its last 20 versions are loaded.

Click "Pull latest" to check for new versions at any time. The "Containers" tab shows each container, its last check and lets you pause or stop monitoring.

Good to know

Only published versions are tracked, not unpublished workspace changes. Tag Insight shows which versions changed, not the detail of the changes, and GTM does not tell who published.
